The Larned, Kansas Levee | |||||
At least 6 governmental units are impacted by this photograph: Because this is a USACE certified levee, none of the City of Larned is considered to be in the 100-year floodplain. Without the levee, approximately, 1/3 of the city would be in the 100-year floodplain. The Corps of Engineers constructed this levee with flood gates at US 56 HWY and the Santa Fe Railroad that must be manually inserted into the grooves in the flood wall. However, yesterday I noticed while driving past this that the guardrails block the complete insertion of the flood gate which would result in the failure of the flood protection system. |
